Glad to see you're interested in taking the time to learn it.
Following up on our conversation from that one piece, the best advice I can give is, rather than focusing on aesthetics what will help you is to pick up a few art fundamentals and break things down to shapes to construct anatomy.
Because you have a sense for what you want to go for in that sense but now it's a matter of learning from your past work and what you can figure out how to do better.
It may take time to build mastery toward that but you could still learn some principles of pixel art then really get creative because I do feel you have the drive to do it, it's also a matter of taking the time to diversify poses and not focus so much on the final product if that makes sense.
You may also have to learn how to detach yourself from your work and avoid marrying the pieces you like but that comes with the territory of feedback.
Hopefully this post helps and it isn't too long, but I do look forward to seeing what you can do and I'm hoping this encourages you to go in that direction.
